The Times Mirror Company principally conducted newspaper publishing, professional information and magazine publishing businesses. The company published The Los Angeles Times, Newsday, The Baltimore Sun, The Hartford Courant, The Morning Call, The (Stamford) Advocate, Greenwich Time and several other smaller newspapers. Through its subsidiary the company also provided professional information to the aviation markets and published magazines. Through Jeppesen Sanderson, the company published aeronautical charts, flight information, pilot training materials and other navigational and operational information worldwide. The company through its subsidiary Times Mirror Magazines, Inc. published a number of special interest and trade magazines like the Sporting News, Skiing Trade News and TransWorld SNOWboarding and other related publications. During 1999, the company acquired New Mass. Media, Inc., a publisher of weekly alternative newspapers.

In June 2000, the Times Mirror Company merged with the Tribune Company. The $8.3 billion transaction was the largest acquisition in newspaper industry history.
